What Are Biodegradable Lubricants?
These products are made from renewable sources, prominently, vegetable oils. What does biodegradable mean? it means that the product will breakdown to its natural state when exposed to microbial activity, sunlight and water.
Types of Bio Lubricants Offered
Inherently Biodegradable
There are no heavy metals within this lubricant, it takes more time to fully break down but it will fully breakdown within a couple of years. The Petro Canada Environ series falls under the category of inherently biodegradable.
Readily Biodegradable
The test for biodegradability sets the standard at a degradation level of between 60% and 100% within 28 days (They average at 70%). These fluids degrade before environmental damage occur, this reduces the cost of cleanup if a spill occurs.
Ultimate Biodegradable
This level of degradation is achieved when the product is totally utilized by micro-organisms, this is the most environmentally friendly of the types.
